In 1987, teenager Charlie Watson is emotionally traumatized by the death of her father, and resentful of her mother Sally’s new boyfriend Ron. B-127 flees from the soldiers, scans a nearby 1967 Volkswagen Beetle and collapses from his injuries. When B-127 refuses to reveal Optimus's whereabouts, Blitzwing tears out his voice box and damages his memory core yet B-127 stabs and destroys Blitzwing with one of his own missiles. B-127 scans a Willys MB jeep and flees to a mine, where he is ambushed by Decepticon Seeker Blitzwing. Colonel Jack Burns presumes B-127 to be a hostile invader and orders his men to attack. B-127 reaches Earth and crash-lands in California, disrupting a training exercise by Sector 7, a secret government agency that monitors extraterrestrial activity on Earth. A Decepticon force, led by Starscream, Soundwave, and Shockwave, intercepts them during the evacuation, and Optimus sends Autobot scout B-127 to Earth in an escape pod, in order to set up a base of operations where the Autobots can regroup. On the planet Cybertron, the Autobot resistance, led by Optimus Prime, is on the verge of losing the civil war against the Decepticons, and prepares to evacuate the planet. The film was praised for its direction, story, lighter tone, performances, voice acting, action sequences, visual effects, musical score, and faithfulness to the 1980s Transformers show. The pair work together to try to discover who Bumblebee is and why he's on Earth, but ultimately they'll find themselves with the fate of the planet in their hands. With his memory and voice lost in battle, he is found by Charlie Watson, a young woman in search of a direction in life.
When Bumblebee is sent to Earth to establish a base for the Autobots, he finds himself hunted by both Sector Seven and the Decepticons. The film was released in the US on December 21, 2018. The film is directed by Travis Knight rather than Michael Bay, written by newcomer Christina Hodson, and produced on a far lower budget of around $100-137 million USD.

A "reset" of the film series as a whole, Bumblebee acts as a prequel and Soft Reboot to the previous four movies (Excludes TLK), albeit taking some liberties with continuity.
